Tips for Weight Loss and Maintenance

So you’ve lost some weight, now the question is, how do you maintain it? It is important to have good habits and that you’re consistent with your daily routine. Focus on having a healthy diet, getting exercise, taking care of your other health conditions and your mental health, and getting good sleep each night – these are all things that impact your overall health.

Both medicine and exercise can help with weight loss maintenance. Medicines that are FDA approved can be taken long-term for weight management. They work best with a reduced calorie diet and increased physical activity. At least 225 to 300 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity are recommended each week -- that’s about 30 minutes to 1 hour of exercise for 5 days.

It is also important to remember that different things can affect your weight at different times in your life. But the ultimate goal is for you to maintain a weight that is healthy for you and that you are in a healthier place than when you first started your weight loss journey.

Dr Donna Ryan talks with a patient, Jeremy, about what has helped him with weight loss and maintenance over the years.
